What's the hurry?

This weeks’ topic for reflection is what’s the hurry? Of coarse you have to first noice you’re rushing in a hurry. Maybe rushing is necessary, maybe not. Could it be possible not everything needs to be done right away? This can be a busy, hectic time of year but we pay a price for being in such a hurry. What about the gift of being calm, kind, patient and generous. This is a gift to ourself and to others.

Slowing down to a comfortable speed you can savor the experience you’re having. For example slow down enough when eating to really taste the holiday food. Even simple plain food is actually interesting. Washing the dishes, try to handle each item carefully and appreciate how it feels and try to make sure it’s actually clean. Utilize random moments to return to and experience what is present. Soak it in.

This moment actually doesn’t have a beginning middle and end. This moment is wonderfully spacious and patient. We narrow it down and limit it by rushing around in a big hurry. Slowing down allows the spaciousness of this moment to come alive with what is.

Embodied and alive we have this extraordinary opportunity to experience sight, sound, smell, taste, tactile sensation and consciousness. We also have the ability to do things and make choices. This is given to us free of charge. We only need to remember to slow down and appreciate the texture of our life. The most important gift is being together. Whatever you do don’t get too busy to savor being together. For me this is the gift of Christmas.
