Transition.

This week’s topic for reflection is transition. In the past few weeks I had cataract surgery on both of my eyes replacing both lenses with new artificial clear ones. This morning, looking across the kitchen, my sight is remarkably clear and vivid. It’s also springtime and everything seems to be in transition and in bloom with explosive growth. There are a few short months available between the cold dormant winter and the hot dry summer to build nests and have offspring and for plants to grow while the soil is still damp and the temperature is not too hot. Everything is plugged into this cycle of transition and being active within their place in it. As I grow progressively older my new improved eyesight has given me the rare opportunity to appear younger and more in tune with springtime.

What are the significant transitions happening in your life? What are the choices you still have regarding them or does it seem you’re just going along for the ride? Are you okay with your needing to transition?

There is no time or place when transitioning stops. It’s our task in life to realize and get used to the changing nature of all things including ourselves. We simply need to work with this transitioning more and appose it less. Notice where you are stuck or want or need to have things not change. Clinging and attachment to anything indicates we have not thoroughly owned the truth of change and transitioning. We want to be safely inside the bubble we create, going where we need to go without needing to change. When it’s not possible to stop change and transition, it’s best to welcome it in and work with it.

Please join us for morning Zoom zazen from 7:00 to 7:30 Tuesday and Thursday, and Sunday morning Zoom zazen and discussion of the topic for reflection blog from 8:00 to 9:00 Pacific Time. Here’s the Zoom link:
