Did you vote?

This week’s topic for reflection is, “Did you vote?” If you haven’t and still have the opportunity, please reflect on what’s important to you, choose and vote. Each of us have a voice and it needs to be exercised in this way. This simple vote is equal to every other vote. Added up these votes help determine the direction of our communities, nation and to some extent the world. So please vote.
The outcomes of elections often surprise me. I’m left wondering how can so many people see things differently than I do? This gives me the opportunity to question their views and my own. I should ask in the midst of my surprise, “What am I missing here?” In what way are they right and I’m wrong? It’s also possible they are not seeing something also. What I don’t appreciate is when campaigns are intentionally misleading which leads people to vote for something that is not true. It’s easiest to be misled when the narrative agrees with ones belief. This is true for me too. I remember my father asking, “Why do you believe that?” This is a good question I continue to ask myself.
The most salient point of elections is that we each have an equal opportunity to be heard and make a difference. I am hopeful that we will hear each other and will be able to move forward. We all need to listen and share, together.
Please join us for morning Zoom zazen from 7:00 to 7:30 Tuesday and Thursday, and Sunday morning Zoom zazen and discussion of the topic for reflection blog from 8:00 to 9:00 Pacific Time. Here’s the Zoom link:
