Curiosity.

ree

This week’s topic for reflection is curiosity. Curiosity is essential in living a full and satisfying life. In order to be truly free we must be curious about the situation we’re in. If we’re ignorant of what’s happening or deluded in what we believe about it we will likely miss the mark in accomplishing what we are trying to do.

One way to practice curiosity is when you have a few minutes, notice how you are. Do this without judgement. What is going on with your body? Then notice what’s  around you. Notice the sounds, any activity, who or what’s there. What else is going on around you? See if you can notice without labeling or creating a narrative about it. Be curious. Try this with a slight smile.

Be curious when you meditate. Notice any tightness, clinging or resistance. Pin point where it is and how it feels. What is it about? If you can, let it go. If it doesn’t want to let go, let it be. It might be something you normally carry around without noticing. It might be something worth having, maybe not. If it persists make friends with it. Be kind and curious toward it. Be curious about ways you are already sure of how things are or will be. How does this effect how you see them or your attitude toward them. When is this kind of thinking helpful in not being foolish or naive?

Curiosity is an active state; receiving, sharing and flowing, being present and patient. Being curious opens us to the world around us helping us to be more alive. It’s actually helpful to not know, and to look and find out. Hopefully finding out will lead to more questions and curiosity.
